L’amour en New York – Part II

As promised, here is Part II of Eoin and Alison’s NYC wedding. As mentioned in my previous post, prior to their official ceremony and reception in France, earlier this year, on a beautiful and unusually warm day in March Alison and Eoin met Scott and I for the first time as their taxi rolled up to the entrance of Central Park where Cynthia of Chateau Challain had their chariot awaiting them…literally. Yes, a horse drawn carriage was ready to whisk them away to their ceremony location but not before Cynthia handed a gorgeous bouquet to Alison and a lovely boutonniere which she swiftly pinned onto Eoin’s newly acquired and may I add, dapper suit. With the sun shining brilliantly in the crisp blue sky, Eoin escorted Alison down the tree lined path to live music provided by two young ladies whom played the guitar and sang on a rather large rock adjacent to the The Ladies Pavillion. How did we acquire the talents of lady musicians you may wonder? Earlier I watched as the two lovely mistresses passed by me with instruments in hand jollily walking through the park and I quickly approached them and requested their services of which they joyously obliged. In the end we walked over to The Mandarin Oriental Hotel for some champagne and enjoyed the vistas over Columbus Circle and Central Park.

L’amour en France – Part I

In lieu of our recent trip to France and by recent I mean just 2 weeks ago, I am full of enthusiasm to share one of the most enchanting and exciting weddings we’ve photographed in a long time. It all began earlier this year when we met Alison and Eoin (pronounced Owen) in NYC. They live in Ireland and came to unite in marriage in Central Park, NYC with a very intimate ceremony which we will feature in Part II of our blog post. Yes, I know its backwards but if you were me could you honestly wait to post the magical images you are about to feast your eyes on? Yeah, I thought so. Why did they get married in NYC if they were going to France for their ceremony you may ask? Because France does not grant marriage certificates to foreigners so if you are not a citizen of France you best get your license before you arrive here my friend. Without further ado I now invite you to peruse through and perhaps even sigh over these beautiful moments Scott and I lovingly captured. Alison and Eoin were a true pleasure to be around. They are meek and both very shy in front of the camera which you would almost never guess when you see how gorgeous they both are. They married outside in some incredibly inclement weather but neither rain nor hail, yes, I said hail would stop their abounding love for one another. The Chateau Challain is an incredible and magical place which will make your wedding feel like the fairytale you always dreamed your wedding day could be.

He looked her straight in the eye and with a strong resolve and determination said “I am going to marry your daughter.” The table was silent for a moment. Then his future mother-in-law picked up her finger sandwich and continued nibbling quietly with nothing more to say, for Kyle had said it all. Oh, yeah, and did I mention he was 16! Yes, Kyle did go on to marry the girl of his dreams a few years later and with the same gusto and genius this man has been attacking life with passion and talent beyond belief.

He first caught our attention last May when we photographed his sister Kiera’s wedding. Why? you may wonder…because while he was a groomsman for her husband David he was simultaneously the cinematographer for their wedding. Capturing someone’s wedding is very special and VERY stressful at times, but doing it while BEING IN the wedding brings the game to a whole new level of performance. I should know as I myself photographed my sister’s wedding 3 years ago next month. How did he do? Amazing, flawless, emotional and most of all so artistic that we had to ask him if he enjoyed himself…because if he did…well, sigh, I wanted him to do it again. So, we invited him to work with us and a few weddings later we realized we are all the perfect fit for each other.

Kyle has an intuitive sense to know when and where to be at the right moment and capture it so cinematically you would think your watching a Hollywood production. He is funny, sensitive, wise, uber awesome at everything he attempts to do and is the most funnest father I have ever met. I have seen each and every one of his films over and over and I never tire of seeing them, each time being touched by something new and each time tears falling from my eyes. But don’t take my word for it, decide for yourself by watching below-just make sure you have tissues nearby.

Horseplay in Hoboken

If you are anything like me, you often give thought to random questions like “Where did the term horseplay come from?” Well, I’ll tell you.

For many centuries horses were rare and expensive. Some knights actually did dash about Europe on spirited chargers. But oxen and donkeys were the most abundant and familiar beasts of burden. Rarity of horses meant that it was quite an experience to see one of them frisking about a field or wallowing in dust, perhaps even laying on its back with all four feet flailing. Soon enough, around the 16th century, the term “Horseplay” was used to label rowdy and boisterous play among humans.

Well, guess what? Scott and I L~O~V~E horseplay during our sessions with families and especially kids. In fact, we encourage it and The Borella family certainly did not shortchange us in this department. Maria is the multi-talented mommy extraordinaire who owns the lovely children’s boutique Bellie & Katrina in Hoboken, NJ. The Mommy Sessions

I feel honored to be chosen to capture and preserve precious moments in so many amazing peoples lives be it their wedding, their engagement, their family portraits or in this case a beautiful maternity session. To know I can pass down a moment in time that can bring a smile to ones face or make them stand a little taller, for me, is a gift. I need nothing more.

Honestly, I am humbled and in awe of each beautiful person that walks into my life.

“You are mine”

As he slowly turned around to see her for the first time, his piercing green eyes welled up with tears and he whispered the words “You are mine? Wow… you are breathtaking!” He was right. She stood before him, radiant with joy and love, and without saying a word, her round and gentle blue eyes assured him of her deep and endless love. The pouring rain continued to fall from the grey skies above but no one seemed to care. Instead we all stood back, entranced by their passion and intensity. They cooed and spoke in hushed tones-compliments, laughter, adoration.

This is Kimmy and Aaron and these are just a few moments from their amazing wedding day.

Rootbeer Kisses

Scott and I view engagement sessions equally as important as the wedding day. Why? you may ask… Well, given that your photographer will be spending the whole day with you on the most important and fastest day of your life and will be the only vendor you deal with before AND after your wedding day, it is probably a good idea you choose a photographer wisely. Someone who won’t annoy you, get all up in your grill when your just not in the mood, or who just isn’t sensitive enough to perceive the emotional status of all those around. Spending some time together before your wedding day allows us to get to know one another more intimately and capture some really fun images of special places you and your loved one share together. It is a fantastic reason to go shopping for multiple outfits, multiple shoe options and get your hair and makeup done…ahem, need I say more? So for the engagement session below, we talked about some different locations with Ashley and Bobby and of course Ashley’s mom came up with the perfect idea…Hot Dog Johnny’s. Go mom! We hit the ground running on that idea and here are some shots we got from that warm & romantic day back in July.

The Heart of a King

On a chilly December day in upper Manhattan, their worlds came together in a perfect moment that forever changed their lives. A proposal of love, loyalty and devotion. He chose The Cloisters Museum to profess his endless love to a girl who possessed golden trusseled curls and his heart in her hands. Her name is Kiera. And rather than write anymore, I shall instead share their words with you because there is no way I could ever write anything more beautiful, emotional or breathtaking than the words they spoke to each other.

Above the museum, on the rooftop overlooking the New York Hudson River, with the crisp, cold winter wind blowing her hair, he whispers to her these words…

“Kiera, your hands are warm to hold. Your blue eyes are natural wonders in themselves. I can count on you to laugh at my jokes, good or bad. With you, I feel empowered to do anything. You are a true compliment. My love, the one I will care for the rest of my life.”

With tears in her crystal blue eyes, she replies “David, you are not your average, adorable, tri-lingual mexican…You are humble, spiritually driven, undeniably genuine and you have the heart of a king. Falling in love with you was simple and unavoidable. If before, I saw in black and white, with you, I now see in color.”

This is just their beginning. The first chapter.
